Location
Condensate underflow (86,000 GPD) from a pulp and paper mill discharged into an aerated stabilization basin, generating sulfide, thiol, and volatile organic acid odors that prompted persistent complaints from the surrounding community. Prior treatment attempts using hydrogen peroxide failed to achieve sufficient odor control.
The AOTech advanced oxidation process was applied to the condensate stream to chemically destroy sulfide, thiols, and volatile organic acid compounds. Treatment was implemented with no measurable impact on stabilization basin performance.
AOTech’s advanced oxidation process delivered elimination of sulfide, thiol, and volatile organic acid compounds from the mill’s 86,000 GPD condensate discharge stream. Community odor complaints, which had persisted despite prior hydrogen peroxide treatment attempts, were resolved. The treatment system integrated seamlessly into the existing stabilization basin operation with no measurable impact on biological performance or overall treatment efficacy. The facility achieved and maintained regulatory compliance, demonstrating that AOTech can serve as a reliable, long-term solution for high-volume industrial odor control where conventional oxidants fall short.
