Challenge

PCE-contaminated groundwater migrated through a silty soil matrix beneath an active multi-business structure in central Indiana, with multiple plume fronts requiring containment. Business continuity requirements precluded disruptive subsurface access methods throughout remediation.

Approach

A phased approach was implemented: a pilot test around MW-3 and MW-4 first validated the combined treatment chemistry, followed by full-scale DPT injections in a grid pattern—two-thirds of injection points receiving BAM and one-third receiving ABC+. A polish treatment round was subsequently applied around MW-3 to address residual impacts.

Results

Non-detect PCE concentrations were achieved in MW-4, with no rebound observed through subsequent monitoring events. Site-wide PCE reduction of 92% was confirmed across all monitored locations following the phased DPT injection program. The treatment approach—combining a pilot validation round with full-scale grid injection of BAM and ABC+ followed by a targeted polish treatment around MW-3—was executed entirely without disruption to the active multi-business structure in central Indiana. Business continuity was maintained throughout all phases of remediation, including the initial pilot test, full-scale injection, and polish treatment round.
