An active gas station in eastern Michigan presented LNAPL contamination with associated BTEX impacts in soil and groundwater. Treatment of multiple contamination phases was required while maintaining uninterrupted gas station operations throughout the remediation program.
A two-phase in-situ treatment was executed: 47 DPT injection points received 2,400 gallons of 20% sodium persulfate catalyzed with PermeOx Plus, followed by a polish injection of 24 DPT points with 1,200 gallons. A vacuum truck was used simultaneously for LNAPL removal and hydraulic control throughout both injection phases.
LNAPL was completely eliminated from all monitored locations at the active eastern Michigan gas station, with no recurrence observed in post-treatment monitoring events. An 78% BTEX reduction was achieved in the most contaminated monitoring well. The two-phase in-situ treatment program—47 injection points with catalyzed sodium persulfate followed by a 24-point polish injection—was completed while gas station operations remained fully uninterrupted throughout both phases. Residual PermeOx Plus oxygen release material incorporated during treatment continues to provide sustained dissolved oxygen to support natural bioremediation of any remaining petroleum residuals in the post-treatment period.
